Lone Star

I made this quilt for my Mum's 80th Birthday. Unfortunately I got my years all mixed up and she got it for her 79th - but she was happy!

I wanted to produce a shabby chic look and choose soft feminine colours. I emphasised the design with quilting and quilted around the main star and picked out each 'circle' of colour. The background has been quilted with tight vermicelli giving an antique appearance.  The lone star is framed using up strips left over from cutting the star, additionally individual diamonds were sewn to form small stars and needle turn appliquéd in each corner. I was especially happy with the centre point of the star as it met perfectly.

Very proud to say this came second in the Village show 2010
